Three Years

Three years ago yesterday Nick and I were married. I can't believe I was so blessed to be married to such a wonderful person. Somehow I found myself sealed for time and all eternity to a person that I am still crazy about.

I have been thinking a lot lately about our story. How two people from opposite ends of the country and were able to find eachother. I realize as I try to remember details of our love story, that I am forgetting much of it. I have never been a jounral keeper and I don't want the past to be washed away. So, I spent the last few weeks writing down everything about our story. I put so much time writing it that I didn't want the effort to go to waste. So, I decided to post the story. I actually don't expect anyone to read it. It's long and I'm guessing nobody really cares about how cute I thought Nick was when we met and the horror story of our first kiss. Anyway, I am posting it in case anyone is ever bored.
The story is all from my point of view. It can be read at

Around the House

I put Makenzie in this box. I thought she would like it for about five seconds and then scream...she played in it for about a half an hour. She started screaming when she knocked all of the movies over on top of her.

I haven't decided yet if she hates socks or just has too much fun taking them off. Either way it has been impossible for us to keep them on her.

She thinks she is pretty cool now that she can walk around everywhere. I kind of miss it when she used to crawl.

She has also become a little climber. Every time I turn around she has climbed up something new. She is so obsessed with the Christmas tree that she had to find a way over the barrier. I have a chair there now. That works better.

When we first put up the Christmas decorations, she got so excited and kept pointing at everything new and saying "Whahisssit" (what is it). Anytime I put something new in the house, she points and it and says "whahissit whahissit whahissit." She really doesn't miss a thing.

Also, when I go in her room after a nap or in the morning she has a routine. She has to say "uh uh" and point to everything she threw out of her crib (pacifier, socks, pants, blanket, animals...etc) and then she has to point to her humidifier and say "whahissit." Then, while I am changing her diaper, she has to point to her desitin and say "whahissit."

She also has become obsessed with reading books. She goes into her room and brings me a book and then sits on my lap. She almost always brings me "Green Eggs and Ham" or "Hop on Pop." When I read her hop on pop, she cracks up at the first page because she likes the rhymes of cup and pup. Then, she tries to make the "p" sound.

If you haven't noticed, I have a very predictable child.

So I went to Omaha last month for my Grandma's 80th surprise birthday party. I haven't posted about it because I hardly took any pictures and I'm embarrassed at the lack. I actually forgot my camera the night of the birthday party. Anyway, here are the few pictures I have:

Happy Birthday to Makenzie!

One year ago today Makenzie was born! Crazy! What a sweet little girl she was....and still is! We have been so blessed to have her...even if it did mean 364 sleepless nights!

I made her a caterpillar cake! At first I thought a caterpillar seemed like a boy cake, but I made sure it was not...I think it may have looked better in person. The picture is kind of weird:

Can't quite reach!

She ate the frosting first..babies intuitively know what is best.

After she ate her cake she licked her hands well as the plate....

New toys!
Nick let Makenzie help him eat his cake. This is what happened after it was all gone:

Luckily Daddy was able to comfort her while she snuggled with one of her new birthday presents.
The poor little girl had to go to the doctor on her birthday and get shots. But she handled them well! Twelve month stats:
Weight: 15 lbs 6 oz (below charts)
Height: 28 inches ( 25th percentile)
Head: 44.5 cm (50th percentile)
Does that mean she is skinny with a big head? I don't think so. I think she is way too cute.

Makenzie gets bored of having the same foods over and over. It's not my fault she only eats the same five things. She still gets very dramatic when I try to feed her new usually involves me putting her in a headlock (not as tramatic as it sounds) to make her try it and then her acting like I shoved a lemon in her mouth...she starts shuddering and gagging. I actually have to put in her a headlock to eat about half of the time. She tells me she is hungry all day long by saying "mmmm" and pointing at her chair. Then, when I try to feed her she refuses to eat. Usually after a few bites in a headlock she says "mmm" and will eat normally. Without the headlock she will not eat and just cry. She is so weird....she usually ends up eating a lot of food everyday. And she doesn't seem to know when she is full. She will literally eat until she starts throwing up. So, I try to stop her when I think she is getting full. However, I found out today that she is still fifteen pounds and one ounce. She has not gained one ounce in the last three months and only half a pound the three months before that. Poor little thing just can't gain weight. I told the nutritionist how much she eats in a day and she said that Makenzie was getting plenty to eat for a baby of her age. So, she insists that I start "calorie packing." She suggested I feed her yogurt with olive oil in it. Eww. She also said to add butter to veggies....actually she didn't just say to add it, she said to slather as much on there as possible. Eww. Couldn't doing things like this cause other complications? And I'm not talking about obesity. It seems like a lot of cholesterol for a baby. I'm going to talk to her doctor about better options. I really think the real reason she doesn't gain weight is because of how active she is. She is constantly on the go and makes laps around the house all day long. Even when she is eating she constantly kicks her legs and tries to throw herself over the side of the chair. She probably is burning everything she eats while she eats it! Except for the times she is just plain bored with the food choice:

Makenzie never took a bottle but she does love her sippy:

When my dad came to the hospital to visit Makenzie for the first time he brought her a pooh bear. She has become obsessed with Pooh lately. She drags him around the house with her and will actually snuggle with him! She is always giving him kisses too....
I always laugh so hard when Nick plays with Makenzie. He says the funniest things. The other day Nick was trying to get Makenzie to come and play with him. I heard him telling her "Makenzie, duck and turtle are going to kiss and you are going to miss it! Hurry! Come watch them kiss!" She went.
Nick took Makenzie to College Game Day while I was supposed to be sleeping in (Makenzie still wakes up about three to five times a night.) I love how he knows she has to wear a bow in public.
Not Pictured:
Makenzie took five steps tonight. She walks better and better everyday. She does the best when we are not trying to get her to walk.

My Little Lady Bug

It is very obvious that I am a first time mother. I admitt it. I post thousands of pictures of my baby wearing the exact same outfit. But how am I supposed to choose which ones to post? I agonize as I narrow down pictures! It was her first Halloween after all!

Angry Lady Bug: (I don't know why I am so obessed with pictures of her mad...) She even has little clenched fists...
Looking through her gatherings:
We did carve a pumpkin this year...mostly just to eat the seeds. I only make girl pumpkins. So, I drew out the design and Nick carved. Here we have Baby Jane:
She does have a beauty mark and a bow...hard to see in the pictures....

Fall Leaves

Makenzie wanted to play in the leaves...and of course I had to take pictures of it...

And as they always say, "all good things must come to an end..." (especially when you are not allowed to eat the leaves...which, by the way, she cried harder when I took the leaf away from her then she did when she got her flu shot. What a drama queen.)

The last one is my favorite. It is my desktop background. I just love it when she folds her hands when she cries.

Fun with Daddy

I was going through pictures on my computer when I came across these pictures. I didn't take them and I don't usually feed Makenzie cheerios off of a step ladder. When I questioned Nick why he was feeding her off a step ladder (she does have a high chair...), he said "I thought that it was better than the floor..." True....
